We are so very lucky to have the Westfields Wetlands right on the doorstep of our school. We have been learning all about the habitat, and some of the plants and animals that live there. We saw lots of different trees, including the sycamore and the horse chestnut. We found some daisies, dandelions, buttercups and watermint. We also saw reeds and bullrushes! We visited the wildflower garden. We have been learning about pollinators, and hoped to see some bees and butterflies. We saw some bees collecting their nectar. It is so important to protect the bees!
We also fed the ducks. We were careful not to feed them bread, as it is not very good for them. Instead, we gave them porridge oats. We were lucky enough to see the tufted duck, and both the male and female mallard duck. We also saw a moor hen and a robin! We even met a very friendly dog! We had a wonderful time and learned a lot about our locality.
