A Message from the Principal

.

Óiche Shamhna sona daoibh go léir! Happy Hallowe'en everyone!

While the lead in to Hallowe'en brings great fun and carnival to schools around Ireland- Salesian PS has a very particular way of concluding this half of the first term. This week we celebrated our Mission Week where we shine a light on our pupils (Children) helping other children abroad and at home through raising funds for charities:

  1. Laura Vicuna Pre-school was established in 1998 to offer a safe place for up to 250 of the many children playing along the streets of Maputsoe while their parents try to make enough money to feed their families.
  1. Jigsaw Limerick which is a free, non-judgemental and confidential mental health support service for young people aged 12 – 25 living, working or studying Limerick City and County.

Thank you to all the staff and Salesian PS families who showed great support to the pupils during their mission.

While I wish you all a lovely midterm, please be mindful that your children are accompanied when they go trick or treating. Also, chat to them about the dangers of fireworks

I look forward to being back together on our safe return to school on the 6th of November.

To give your child a good start to the school day:

  • Each child should have eaten breakfast before they come to school. This is important to set them up for a comfortable day of learning and playing with their school friends.
  • Be on time: Our school Gates open at 8:30 am each morning.
  • School commences for all pupils at 8:40 am. Pupils should be in their classrooms ready to commence learning at 8.40 am each morning.

Also remember:

  • (1) Please label your child's school jumper with a permanent black marker
  • (2) As the days get darker and colder, please ensure that pupils who walk to school are visible to cars. Also ensure that pupils have winter coats to wear.
  • (3) Our school is a nut free school and our Senior Infant corridor is also an egg free zone

Highlights from Term 1

Library Launch

We are delighted to be using our new library and we are looking forward to an official launch before Christmas. Our newly revamped and state of the art school library has a huge array of great books both fiction, non- fiction areas. We have audio, well-being and other language sections to name but a few!

A special thanks to our dedicated parents who helped Mrs Dowling to piece the project together from scratch-a huge undertaking!

Mission Week

Well done to all the girls and thanks to all the parents for your enthusiasm and support towards Mission Week this year. The children enjoyed bake sales, bingo, dress-up disco and cinema experience! Funds raised will go towards the missions of the Salesian Sisters working with extreme poverty in Lesotho in South Africa, and also towards the children's mental health support team of Jigsaw, here in Limerick.

Student Council
Great excitement was had in October when our Student Council elections 2023/2024 were held. There was a fantastic buzz around the school as students put their name forward for the council, made speeches, posters and powerpoint presentations on how they would help to make our school a better place for everyone. Huge congratulations to our newly elected council members Chloe, Emma, Úna, Ellen, Molly, Mary-Ann and Summer Rose. We are looking forward to working with you and having you represent the Student Voice here at the Salesians.

Science Week

We will be celebrating Science Week the week of November 13th - 17th. We would welcome parents or guardians with a Science background to come in to speak to our students about Science in their jobs and lives.
