Science Fun in 6th Class

Mrs. Dooley Ryan and Ms. O'Donnell's 6th Class enjoyed a week of predicting, hypothesising and investigating in science. Our theme for the week was 'solids, liquids and gases' and our investigations included learning about the different states, the density of liquids and the different effects of heat and freezing. One of our experiments was the Earth's water cycle, which we are observing regularly to see the effects of heat on water! Our brand new computers, donated by Infinity 2, were a fantastic learning tool as all the girls explored our theme online. Our week finished with a gripping online workshop, 'How to become a Superhero Scientist' from a Limerick Scientist, Dr. Barry FItzgerald. We have a copy of Dr. Fitzgerald's book which we are looking forward to reading! In Mathematics we learned about tesselations and in art we created our own translated tessellation shapes to create stunning painted patterns.  Science, mathematics and nature, depend on useful patterns or Tessalations!
