World Book Day Home Activities Thursday 4th March


We are celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 4th March in Salesian P.S.

At home, there are lots of fun activities you can do with your child to mark this most exciting book day of the year! Here is a menu of fabulous activities to choose from and to dip in and out of, long after World Book Day!

-Swap screen time for Book Time on Thursday. Sit and read a book with your child or ask your child about the book they are currently reading.

-Try out some of the fun reading activities on

o For younger children, enjoy gorgeous books being read aloud:

o For older children, listen to famous authors talking and giving tips:

- Be beamed into a reading session in our own local library with our own local librarians on

-Enjoy live presentations on

o Wed. 3rd March, 10.30a.m. – Books that Make You LOL! (suitable for 7+)

o Thurs. 4th March, 10.30a.m – World Book Day Special – Bringing Books to Life (suitable for 4+)

o Friday 5th March, 10.30a.m. – Books and the Real World (suitable for 9+)

-Take a book quiz

o David Walliams Book Quiz ( )

o Guess the book from its cover quiz ( )

o Roadhl Dahl Quiz ( )

o The World Book Day Big Bonanza Quiz – for older readers ( )

-Fun activities with your child's favourite book

o Encourage your child to act out his/her favourite character after reading the book together.

o Write an alternative ending to their favourite story letting their imaginations run wild as they reinvent a different ending to their favourite book

o Create a new character from their favourite book! Draw all of the characters and then think about somebody new to fit into the plot.. Make sure the character has a name, a role and a back story.

Give this a go! This is a truly magical website as every single week, a popular children's author or illustrator provides free books (audiobooks), video interviews with author/illustrator and their top 3 recommended books. For reluctant readers and children who are mad about books, this virtual school library provides great variety and a great supply of quality reads. You can access books from past weeks too.

o This week's book is The Good Thieves by Katherine Rundell (suitable for 9+)

o Lots of others available too e.g. Starfell: Willow Moss and the Lost Day by Dominique Valente (suitable for 8+)
